PRESS RELEASE: EMBO Workshop “Glycobiology and Glycochemistry: Applications to human health and disease” dedicates a full day to Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation (CDG).
It is our pleasure to announce the EMBO Workshop “Glycobiology and Glycochemistry: Applications to human health and disease”, supported by the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO). The EMBO Workshop will be taking place in the beautiful and sunny city of Lisbon, Portugal, at Faculdade de Ciências Médicas , Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, Portugal, from 24 to 28 May 2014. Visit our website http://events.embo.org/14-glyco/ and find more about our program, full of scientific and social activities!
The theme Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation (CDG) will have theoretical and practical lectures given by Dirk Lefeber (Nijmegen Medical Centre, The Netherlands). Our scientific advisor Vanessa Ferreira, the President and founder of the Portuguese CDG Association and other Rare Metabolic Disorders mentions “This workshop is a unique opportunity to get insights on the considerable progress in the past years in the field of Glycobiology and Glycochemistry as key areas to better understand human health and disease. Life-altering and often life-threatening or fatal human diseases such as CDG, will obtain several benefits as direct result from this initiative: (1) creation of space for future collaborations, (2) promotion of sharing knowledge and resources and (3) raising awareness and (4) recruitment of new scientists into this complex research area.”
Location: Faculdade de Faculdade de Ciências Médicas, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa.
Grants: EMBO Programme provides funds to offer travel grants to participants coming from labs in countries in need of scientific strengthening (see EMBO eligibility criteria). In addition, we expect additional sponsoring to offer grants to registered students.
